By now, it's hard not to recognise them for their simple yet iconic appearance. QR codes were created in 1994 by the Japanese automobile company, Denso Wave. Masahiro Hara was inspired by the board game "Go" to create the icon based on the white and black pieces used in the game. Back when they were first developed, QR codes were only created for keeping track of car parts, but that was just the starting tip of their potential.
Decades later, the world would come to know the QR code based on their presence and usability. All someone has to do is use the camera on their mobile device to scan the little square, and the QR code will open up a link to a new web page. This ease of use made them an eye-catching icon that is still used in many different settings.
This website was created through the desire to implement QR codes into a multiple-choice storytelling process, for users to enjoy a different method of reading.
